In Spring and Summer 2017, student ‘curriculum ambassadors’ from University of East London worked with students at Cumberland School to link skills, university study and careers. UEL students delivered over 30 sessions over three dates to 300 students per day.
It was interesting to find out about all of the health careers aside from doctors and nurses; I didn’t know you could concentrate on foot medicine!
StudentThe curriculum ambassadors also presented their experiences and gave mini-lectures on their subjects, which ranged from podiatry, to advertising, to early childcare studies. Student evaluations of the event showed a big shift in understanding of transferable skills, the Newham labour market and education pathways.
Students consistently reported that they enjoyed learning about different careers, transferable skills and the work opportunities in Newham.
Cumberland and UEL will work together to deliver these sessions in 2017/18.
