Columbia Threadneedle hosted their first Negotiation Challenge on Friday 1st December 2017, but it was no match for Cumberland School’s enthusiastic Year 9 students, who confidently negotiated tricky deals in a business simulation.
A team of dynamic Columbia Threadneedle volunteers supported the 30 students from Cumberland School as they took on roles as ‘Pineapple’ and ‘Redberry’ industries. Pupils had to negotiate six tricky disputes in order to reach a takeover deal by the end of the session, during which they demonstrated impressive communication, resilience, and flexibility.
I would be able to use this when I make my decisions about the choices in school for the subjects and with my future job
Year 9 StudentAs well as demonstrating their negotiation skills, the students had the chance to network with Columbia Threadneedle’s friendly and honest volunteers, who told us about their job roles and career pathways. This was a unique chance to interact with new people and, following the session, one student commented that, ‘when speaking to a group of people I will have more confidence.’
