Mmmm, apps! Exploring enterprise with young business developers at Rokeby School

“Over two days in June, business volunteers from Barclays helped Year 10 students develop business plans for creative new apps.”

15billion-ebp, collaborated with volunteers at Barclays to develop a bespoke ‘Enterprise & Entrepreneurship’ workshop. A range of volunteers spent the day with the students acting as ‘business advisors’. Students were encouraged to get innovative and use their soft skills throughout the day.

I really enjoyed this challenge, though there was so much to fit in the day!

Student

The teams deliberated on what roles each student should assume, ranging from the Head of Design to the finance director, each individual had to play their role in contributing to a detailed business plan and the final pitch to our volunteer judges. Through a series of mini presentations from the volunteers, students explored all aspects of a new business start-up, from planning and brainstorming, to marketing, prototypes and costing.

The students’ app ideas were impressive, ranging from revision tools, to school based networks. A memorable winning idea was ‘Mmmm, munch!’ an app that puts together recipes according to what you have available in your fridge. The students really impressed the judges with their presentations, winning Amazon vouchers, along with renewed enthusiasm about entrepreneurship.

Young talent at its best! The ideas and desire to succeed was fantastic, it’s great to see young people using their everyday skills in competition in this challenge
