Thirsty work! The Thames Water Newham Network Challenge

This Spring, Thames Water will be bringing their Network Challenge to seven Newham Schools as part of the Careers Cluster.

The first event took place at Cumberland School on Monday 12th March. 50 Year 8 students took part, competing in teams to build a water network.

There is a strong focus on careers, as well as presenting water waste, with volunteers from the company present to answer questions.

I liked the race and everyone having different jobs to do and also working together

Students were also shown first-hand that only toilet tissue should be flushed, and certainly not wet wipes or oil, as that leads to the formation of giant fatbergs!

The most exciting part of the session, though, was the network challenge itself. Students needed to show great critical thinking, leadership, teamwork and attention to detail in order to succeed.
